THE CHALLENGE
The client required a new downstream re-refining plant to be integrated with their existing dehydration system. The project called for a process route suited to the feedstock and product separation requirements specifically, a vacuum distillation and partial-condensation configuration with complete PLC/SCADA automation from the outset.
OUR SOLUTION
Balaji Consultants designed the complete downstream plant around the client's feedstock characteristics, existing infrastructure and product separation requirements. The vacuum distillation and partial-condensation approach was selected to achieve progressive separation of lube-oil fractions. Heating is provided through a convective fired heater. A PLC/SCADA system was engineered and commissioned by Balaji Consultants as part of the plant delivery.
THE PROCESS ROUTE FOLLOWS THE FEEDSTOCK NOT A PREDETERMINED EQUIPMENT PACKAGE.
Balaji Consultants evaluates the feedstock, desired product state, existing plant infrastructure, capacity and project economics before selecting the appropriate re-refining process configuration.
PROCESS CONFIGURATION
The client's existing dehydration system conditions incoming used oil before it enters the new downstream plant. Oil passes through the distillation section under vacuum, where lube-oil fractions are progressively separated through partial condensation into separate receivers. Heating is supplied by a convective fired heater. The PLC/SCADA system provides centralised monitoring and control of temperatures, pressures, vacuum level, alarms, process interlocks and data logging throughout the plant.
